The Presidential Election and my "Stinky onion of an opinion"

Here is the dirt on each candidate according to the public record. I will also grace you with “my stinky onion of an opinion.” (Part One)

Democratic hopefuls:  Hillary Clinton versus Bernie Sanders

They both pretty much have the same platform.

What is this with Hillary’s email? “Now, in a letter dated February 2 and filed in court Monday, the FBI’s general counsel, James Baker,  notes that in public statements and congressional testimony, the FBI “has acknowledged generally that it is working on matters related to former Secretary Clinton’s use of a private email server.” (1)

It seems that Hillary Clinton, while secretary of State under the Obama administration, had used private server and deleted many emails she said that were personal. This is in violation of protocol, procedure, and federal laws as well as a requirement of federal record keeping regulations. Some of these emails were considered top-secret.

Of course let us not forget the hearings on Benghazi where US Ambassador and three other Americans were killed in an attack. This is a political fiasco. It is not so much on the security but whether Clinton had prior knowledge and how it was handled. Libya has always been a “hot bed” of political dissension and it is not the first time a US Ambassador was killed. I can’t help but wonder if this is all political since she is running for president? Ted Cruz was right in the middle of suggestions for the hearing and helped put together the panel as well. A lot of the testimonial questions had nothing to do with Benghazi nor the emails. It is more like a political fishing expedition. Are these male political counterparts to Hillary Clinton perhaps intimidated by the fact she is a woman?

Hillary is taking on a strong stance to end sexual assault? Were those women (of Bill’s), once made aware to you, in an essence sexually assault? Could a powerful world leader using his position to gain sexual favors be considered sexual assault? Yet you ignored or had no knowledge of that fact.(2)  I know you didn’t commit adultery. It was apparently consensual between two parties.  But surely, you had to have known. My mother knew each and every time her husband  (my dad) ran around on her. Mom did the same thing you did, “Stand by her man.”

Other than Bill Clinton’s indiscretions, White Water of Arkansas, Emails, and Benghazi, there is not a lot to say about Hillary Clinton.   

Bernie Sanders is an interesting person. What I didn’t mention earlier was that he has been married twice. Oh woo! So was the late president Ronald Reagan. From 1964-68 he was married to Deborah Shiling. In 1969 he lived with Susan Campbell Mott and they had a son. He married Jane Driscoll in 1988 and she had 3 children from a previous marriage. She helped raise his son and he helped raise her three children. (3) Yet he believes in traditional family values.

Divorce is not a traditional family value unless we are referring to something religious. And, I must say there are eight different traditional marriages in the Bible. The only one that warrants a divorce is adultery. An incompatible marriage was coined by the late former President Reagan when he was governor for California early in his political career, His divorce from Jane Wymann was based on the grounds of cruelty and he didn’t like the fact there was no “incompatible marriage” divorce laws in California. So his first order as a governor was to create incompatibility as grounds for divorce.

I have noted several sources call Bernie “Vermont’s Socialist Mayor.” In July 1985, Bernie Sanders traveled to Nicaragua, where he attended an event that one wire report dubbed an “anti-U.S. rally….The leftist Sandinista government was celebrating the sixth anniversary of the revolution that saw it take power from an American-backed dictator, Anastasio Somoza....Onstage, Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega accused the U.S. government of “state terrorism” for supporting the rebels who were seeking to overthrow him. The Sandinistas and the CIA-backed Contras would fight into the next decade, with allegations of human rights abuses on both sides. At the 1985 rally Sanders attended, Ortega vowed the Sandinistas would “defend the revolution with guns in hand.” (4) He was mayor of Burlington, Vermont at the time.

My only objection to Bernie Sanders is his age. I don’t want to seem discriminatory because I am a young senior citizen, but the office of president takes a toll on any man. The late former President Reagan was 69 when he took office. If Sanders wins he will be 76 years old when he takes office officially. If Hillary Clinton wins she will be 68 when she takes office officially. Should we consider health as being an issue with the Presidency?

Since the subject of Bill Clinton’s sexual proclivities was brought up in social medias andthe  press, I would be remiss not to mention the previous activities of Bernie Sanders’ wife, Jane O’Meara Sanders. “Jane has also been at the core of controversy over the course of her career, with accusations surfacing that she played a major role in the eventual bankruptcy of Burlington College where she served as president from 2004 to 2011. Jane was involved in relocation the campus and expanding its overall size and rumors began to swirl that the school was in financial trouble.   She was never formally charged but did resign quietly.” (5)

Never “formally charged”with what? “Burlington College President Jane O’Meara Sanders resigned Monday after reaching a settlement with the Board of Trustees.... During her seven years as president, new academic majors and an institutional aid fund for students have been developed. However, the recent property purchase, combined with rising tuition and difficulties expanding enrollment, has intensified financial, management and academic pressures. But negotiations over a new contract stalled as doubts emerged about her plans and fundraising. In August, the board voted to negotiate an early exit package...” (6)  What aren’t they saying due to a confidentiality clause?

Spouses of Presidential hopefuls sometimes are not as “lilly lovely” as the position seems to portray in past years. It just goes to show us all that times are changing, and not necessarily for the good either. According to my parents, everyone has skeletons in the closet. But, maybe they need a southern lesson. Put the skeletons behind the coats and sweep the cat pooh under the rug.

Switching lanes onto a new road.

Morally speaking, there isn’t one person whose has a solid foundation. I learned back in 1982, that we are all thieves. I learned in 2008, that we all are slaves to something. I learned in 2009, that we as American citizens believe lies as truths and have short memories. In 2013, I had my theory enforced as well as belief that organized religion was in terrible shape. In 2014, I learned that our framing leaders in the country were not necessarily honorable christians--as I previously believed.   In 2016, I finally came to the realization, I don’t care. I only have faith in God. My foundations are still weak as most, but I am happy to have God in my life.

Presidential Election Part 6

This is the final part of a series of factual information on the presidential candidates. Again, this is a factual paper without my opinion. That will come another day.

Republican:

Donald Trump: wife is Melania Knauss; father of five.

Personal note: Melania is a former supermodel. She will be the second first lady in history not born in the USA.  She has it. "She was Honorary Chairwoman for Martha Graham Dance Company in April 2005, is an active member of the Police Athletic League which honored her with Woman of The Year 2006, has been an Honorary Chairwoman for The Boy's Club of New York for five consecutive years, and in 2005 The American Red Cross awarded her with Goodwill Ambassador which she has proudly served for four years. In April of 2008, she was asked by Love Our Children USA and NASDAQ to participate in the Fifth Annual National Love Our Children Day and the beginning of National Child Abuse Prevention month by ringing the closing bell at NASDAQ. Melania's philanthropic interests more and more represent her humanitarian side, and she remains an indefatigable and dedicated New Yorker.“(1) She has a line of timeless jewelry and a skin care product business.

Health Care reform-- repeal Obama care, inhibit the sale of health insurance across individual state lines, tax deduction in insurance premiums, implement Health Care Savings (HSA) for worker contribution, shop for the best medicare prices, block grant medicaid to states, free market for drug providers to provide reliable, safe, and cheaper products, restrict $11 billion on health cost to illegal aliens, reduce medicaid and children’s health insurance but provide programs that grow with the economy, capital, and jobs, reform mental health

US/China Trade Reform-- negotiate for fair trade of US products to China, end lax labor and environmental standards, bolster military power in south Asian seas, lower US corporate taxes, declare China a currency manipulator

VA Reforms--make sure that Vets get the care they need when they needed it, support the whole veteran, for the VA to compete for their dollars

Tax reform-- simplify the tax code, relief for middle class american by single making less than $25,000 pays no tax, family less than $50,000 pays no tax, four tax brackets 0% 10% 20% 25%, do not add to debt or deficit, 15% flat business tax, no death tax, overseas holdings and cash tax-flat 10%.

Uphold 2nd Amendment rights

Immigration reform -- build a wall at the borders, enforce immigration laws, send Mexico the bill for the wall, nationwide e-verification program, increase ICE officers, detain and return illegal aliens, out an end to birth-right, put American workers first.(3)

Here is the 5th presidential candidate. Again this is reminder that I will not state any opinion, because these are facts.

Special note: Jeanette is a homemaker but pushes an agenda to end sex slave trafficking; it is unclear whether or not she has had a higher education; classifies herself as an introvert.(1)

Senior Citizens: reform Social Security, medicare and medicare advantage, gradually increase retirement age, reduce growth of benefits for upper income seniors, strengthen the program for lower income seniors, abolish retirement earnings tax, exempt 65+ who want to keep working, recall Obama care, overhaul tax codes.

Changing lanes,,. new topic.

We are getting older. There is a tremendous amount of worry and unrealized fear in the American public today and we shouldn’t let it bother us. That fear is because of unknown circumstances. Regardless of what happens there will be change. There always is change with every national election we have. Here is the key to help ward off concerns. Think about the one thing that is always constant in our lives. That is our spiritual beings, our faith in God and Jesus. Use that feeling to hold you up when you fear the unknown--the future. A person cannot go wrong when they realize this ability in their faith.

What beautiful Sunday morning. I am up and have had my tea, breakfast and am ready to begin. My faith in God allows me to have a new path each day. I have learned to regularly put all my troubles, woes, and worries at the base of the cross in which Jesus was nailed. There is no denying He, died for our sins. God raises us up like He did Jesus through His grace. He calms our fears. He lights the path in which we are to follow.

Presidential Election - Part 3

As promised here is part three of the Presidential Election. Since I have covered Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders (both opposing each other on the democratic ticket); now it is time to take a look at the other party’s candidates.

Changing subjects...onto a new road.

Have you ever accused someone of something without knowing all the information. We are suppose to be a nation of independent thinkers. But are we really? God granted us free will. That means we have choices to be made. To make a choice we should actually think about it first. The society in which we live in runs exceedingly past the speed limits posted on the roads and that is not good. When we do not slow down, we endanger the lives of the people around us regardless if it is family or strangers.

Not slowing can also breaks the law-- minor to major infraction depending on the incident. You may wonder how? For example: speeding is a minor criminal act. The law of speed is posted on every road; if you speed then you are a minor discounted criminal--caught or not. If you speed and kill someone due to “not thinking” you become a major criminal--caught or not.

I watched a video the other day where drivers were not stopping when the school bus put up the stop arm to load and unload children. A child was almost hit by a passing motorist. It is common knowledge and the law to stop when the school bus is stopped to load or unload students, especially on a two lane road.

God has posted his laws, rules, and regulations with every turn of the page in our lives. We can think about them or we can speed through life without consideration. The choice is yours. Slow down and think.

This is part two on a series of the Presidential Election. I will put together strictly the facts on each of the candidates running for the office of president of the United States.

Democrats:

Income wealth/ inequality, college tuition free/debt free, get big bucks out of politics/ restore democracy, create decent paying jobs, a living wage, climate change to save the planet, fair and humane immigration policy, racial justice, women’s rights, LGBT equality, social security, lower Rx drug prices, supporting historically black colleges/universities, improving rural economy, reforming Wall Street, real family values, war and peace/support the Iran deal- resulting war as last efforts, making wealthy, Wall St., and large corporations pay their fair share.

How does Bernie Sanders intend to pay for these programs:

Make corporations pay taxes on all profits

Tax Wall St. speculators

Lift income cap on taxable income over $250,000

Ending loopholes on the carried interest

Payroll tax of $1.61 per week

Tax large inheritances and expense inherited art work

Stop taxpayer funded give-a-ways

6.2% income based health care paid by employer and 2.2% of health care paid by households

progress income tax rates

capital gains and dividend taxes

adjust real estate taxes

end tax breaks and subsidies for fossil fuel companies

All changes will start from year one to ten years if elected president.

Special Note:

Jane Sanders, wife, holds a PhD in leadership studies in politics, is a large contributor and adviser to Bernie’s political career.

As I stated in my last blog, I will hold all opinions and just list the facts until after I have covered all the candidates. Part three will cover the Republican party candidates.

Changing lanes:

Politics just like religion is a highly emotional topic. Tonight I was engaged in a discussing over the history of the USA. The other person involved in the conversation was highly insulting toward me. I am educated and do really great research. I will brag that I do hold an AA, BA, and MA. In all honesty that doesn’t make me any smarter than anyone else.

History as well as any other subject in the academic community is not always taught correctly and or outlined in any book as being100% accurate. Which brings me to what is called truth.

It is possible for two people to be correct, two to be wrong, and/ or one to be correct and one to be wrong. It is what can be conceived as personal truth.

The Bible states in Mosaic Law and confirmed in the Christian doctrine that we should not lie. Of course that means we should tell the truth to the best of our ability. If you believe something is true in your heart as fact, and someone else believes something entirely different as being true in their heart, then it is true-- we have achieved the truth. Be respectful of other people’s truths  regardless whether you agree with it or not. It is the “right” thing to do under God’s plan. After all does anyone know if anything is true? I know for a fact that the faith I hold in my heart for God and his Son, Jesus Christ, is true. Everything else is just semantics.

Presidential Elections - Part One

I haven’t written for a while because of illness. Today is the day that I start my blogging again.

The topic is the upcoming presidential election. This blog will be in six parts detailing the presidential candidates of the USA to this point.

I am not sure how many are aware of those people who are seeking the seat and the actual process behind the election of the president of the USA.It is the same as it was more than 200 years ago. A general election is held by popular vote but that doesn’t make the popular electee a winner. Members of the electoral college (an alleged representation of the people), which is based on the population of a state, vote on the president; they also don’t always vote the way you want them to either. When this process was set up, it was done because the average man couldn’t comprehend and or did not have the intellect to choose a president.

It is a much outdated system.

Up until the general election, we have primaries voting to choose a candidate for each political party -- generally established as Republican and Democrat. Of course there are independents who can make the general election ballot but very seldom do they get more than a very small percentage of votes in the long run. As a result the people do and do not actual vote for the President. My concern(s) have been if the people actually do not vote for the president, how can the president uphold the Constitution of the United States. After all, he is in the employ of the people and the constitution was written up as “We the people…” 

Now for the introduction of the Presidential hopefuls:
Democratic Party: 
Hillary Clinton - wife of former President Bill Clinton, mother, and grandmother. 
Qualifications:
Former Secretary of State under President Obama
former US Senator for the state of New York
practicing lawyer and law professor
graduated from Wellesley College Yale Law School

Prior to running for presidency, she championed for children’s healthcare, human rights, women’s rights, and education.

Issues:
Alzheimer’s disease, campaign finance reform, campus sexual assault, change and energy, college education costs, criminal justice reform, disability rights, economy, gun violence prevention, health care, immigration reform, infrastructure, k-12 education, labor, LGBT equality, national security, paid leave, racial justice, small businesses, social security/medicare, substance use disorder and addiction, veterans, armed forces and their families, voting rights, Wall Street and corporate America, women’s rights, workforce and skills, and rural communities. (1)

The only real question that I had was under campaign finance reform. What is Citizens United? It is a political action committee of what seems like the “filthy rich” ultra conservatives.(2)

”In the 2008 election season, Citizens United the PAC sought to broadcast TV ads for a video-on-demand film criticizing presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton, but doing so would violate the 2002 Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act (known also as the McCain–Feingold Act), which barred corporations and unions from paying for media that mentioned any candidate in periods immediately preceding elections. Citizens United challenged the law, suing the Federal Election Commission (which sets campaign finance laws and election rules), and the case made its way through lower courts until an appeal was granted by the U.S. Supreme Court. In a 5-4 ruling, the Justices declared unconstitutional the government restriction on “independent” political spending by corporations and unions, and determined the anti-Clinton broadcast should have been allowed. The decision overturned century-old precedent allowing the government to regulate such spending. As a result, Citizens United has greatly affected the way corporations and unions can spend on elections (more on that below).” (3)

I have sort of already made up my mind as to who I will vote for. I am a mid-line conservative but will hold my opinion until I finish detailing all the presidential candidates.

At this time I want to change lanes to something interesting: GOD.

God made different languages for a reason. With those languages come different cultures. It was for our own good and to save humanity. Too many of the same anything can promote gluttony and it does bring out the worse in the human behavior. Too much of anything can lesson the good of humanity, increase the possibility of criminal behavior, social ills, and tragedy. We need to preserve patience and work on our humility as well as self worth. Different languages promotes diversity and increases learning. It also increases humanitarianism for all people. Since the population of the earth is vastly growing, we all can use the comprehension of other cultures to realize that not everyone is like the American people, but the basic needs (food, clothing, shelter) are the same.
